Exploring new places by bike is what we do, and we want to take you. We build small batch cycling experiences for you and your friends. We deploy our decades of knowledge building ride experiences for journalists and cycling brands to your adventure.
We won't play at the expense of the planet. We love nothing more than sharing pristine tracks with our friends old and new. We also know that travel has significant carbon emissions and contributes to the climate crisis at an ever quickening pace. The bicycle, both how we make it AND how we use it, has a critical role in righting the ship and helping the world meet our climate objectives.
That is why every Alternate Route FieldTrip™ run in 2023 will be carbon negative. We will exceed each of our adventures’ carbon impact with investment in forestry and regional conservation. Travel operations and guest visits will be neutralized with tangible, meaningful carbon purchases. By using globally accepted equations such as the coolefect.org calculator, we’ll determine each trip’s emission tonnage. Then, we will purchase 25% more than carbon expended on our trips in two ways; funding conservation acquisition with New Hampshire’s SouthEast Land Trust seltnh.org and investing in foresters and farmers at NCX.com.
How will it work? Easy. Every rider’s trip will carry a carbon surcharge of $50 USD, clearly stated on their invoice. However riders can earn a $100 credit if they provide proof of carbon acquisition with another recognized provider for their trip.
We challenge every company involved in bicycle tourism to meet or beat this effort. The bicycle is supposed to be part of the solution, not the problem. Together we can make that so.
In a couple weeks we will post our 2023 schedule and I personally hope you’ll join us. And I hope you will embrace our carbon purchase scheme.
Introducing Bikeslacking™. A pretty close cousin of bikepacking, but we pick up a bit of the slack. We think it's a great way to give bikepacking a try. A few days of riding and a couple nights out, we will camp/glamp with some support and haul some gear (and refreshments!) as needed. Perfect for the bikepack-curious.
You'll spend the day on the trail with a couple of our guides, and you and the group will be self-contained for the day. But when you arrive at our camp or cabin, your sleeping gear and extra bits will be waiting. You get cleaned up and hang by the fire with a cold (or hot) one and we'll make dinner.
Watch this space or message us for more info about our “Quick and Dirty” 3 day, 2 night series coming this fall. Connect and we will share our list of adventures as they come online.
Introduced in 2022, our event series partners with road and gravel events bringing you a multi-day regional ride experience built around popular fondos and races. You will have a guaranteed entry into the event and experience full pro-level support from our mechanics, chefs, and guides for the entire trip. You will stay in beautiful homes and lodges, as you ride and prepare for event day. While we formulate our 2023 schedule, some of the highlights will include
The Ranger VT, Rooted Vermont, and the Lime Rock Epic. Connect and let us know where you want to ride or to express your interest in one of these events
Have you had enough of the tour group formula? Let us build you a custom trip. It is our favorite thing to do. Leaning on our 30+ years of building ride experiences around the globe, we will activate the right guides, local fixers, and chefs to bring you a ride adventure of a life time . Connect and let us know where you want to ride. We specialize in groups of twelve or less, allowing us to better focus on the needs of each guest.
What is "Small Batch Cycling?"
We build custom adventures for you and your small group for an experience of a lifetime. No two trips are the same. You can follow our lead or go your own way.
While we love riding almost everything, we've focused on bringing you miles of the best country roads, paved and unpaved. We can dig into some super gnarly Class IV and Class VI roads if you wish, or design a route of gentle wonder. Whatever your terrain preference, plan on fun.
Our Plan or Yours
We offer a handful of FieldTrips of our design, as well as building "bespoke adventures," delivering ride experiences from your imagination. With custom trips, you name it, we build it. Deploying a legion of renowned chefs, soigneurs, professional riders, coaches, and ride guides, we are ready to deliver.
Each season we will post a short list of one-off adventures designed for small groups of hearty souls to explore. Choose one of those or let us build yours.
We ride the routes that bring exploration, wonder, peace, and excitement. We work with rental homes, funky and boutique hotels, small lodges, and camps to host your adventure with our own brand of hospitality.
